oh hi... from California

#1

Post by Xanthoria »

I used to lurk on another xeric forum (are we allowed to talk about it...?) but looks like people ended up here! D))

Anyway, I have three xeric gardens - one private and two public ones in San Francisco where I cram in as many agaves, aloes and so on as possible, inflicting their spiny madness on the masses.

So... hi! :M

Welcome! And yes, we're allowed to talk about it. :))
Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Hi! The more the merrier! Welcome. :))

What are the public gardens? Every once in a while I'm in SF. Always love to see xeric gardens. Start a thread and post pictures if you are interested and have the time. :U

Certain xeric plants grow better in SF than anywhere else... Aloe striatula being one

The Agave gypsophylla is what I forgot what they are supposed to look like! I have an old late 80's book on the Gardens of San Francsico. I remember Portrero Hill had some great tropical look yards. Frost free will do that even in cool SF.

Welcome, yes many have found refuge here. Sanctuary!

I heard the Aloes grow pretty well in Africa too. D))

What is the purple flowered vine arching over the entrance?
