"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

My Utahensis var Utahensis, just slowly outgrowing it's space. Slow growth but proved hardy at this size. South London, in gravel and grit raised bed, shelter overhead, morning sun.

^ Those really look like nevadensis. I think some range maps need readjusting.

I agree, some of these could be straight out of the Spring Mountains. As far as range maps go, you’re gonna need a fine sharpie. Here are plants from the Mormon Mountains, the very next mountain range to the west and roughly equidistant between the type localities of eborispina and utahensis. These are plants from about 3700’. A few of these could pass for utahensis v. eborispina and a few could pass for utahensis v. utahensis.

I feel like I need to see more habitat to get a better picture. I know there are lots of plants in the Virgin Mountains and some curious pockets close to the edge of the Mojave near Clover Mountain and Delamar Mountains. Elevation is not a major factor on the looks from what I can tell. There are plants that can pass for all three varieties at multiple elevations.
I've noticed for years now (from photos) that UT utahs can look very different from those of AZ and NV.
