Re: Agave albopilosa
Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Very cool. I notice Plant Delights in NC is offering this one 3 year old ones for 100 dollars each!

I guess waiting had it's silver lining...they reduced that price by nearly 1/2. Not only that, mine that arrived today has a number of offsets!

Here's mine, holding up just fine in the summer heat and a lot more sun that I expected it would like. Bummer to see those huge habitat-collected plants at the top of the page though...

Greg says I should pot this up. He's probably right. It doesn't feel like it's grown at all, but looking at my old photo it certainly has!

Re: Agave albopilosa
When do the hairs start to show ? I've had a small plant for a couple of years, but, so far, no hairs. Seems to be slow growing, also.

Mine is still very small, but some of the older leaves are starting to be fuzzy!

Re: Agave albopilosa
It’s definitely a slow agave. I bought one after all the hype a few years ago, but it went on the chopping block when I made the move to Austin. If I get a greenhouse I might try another.

You know, it probably wouldn't be a bad one for Austin. Its habitat is both moist and relatively cold.

Re: Agave albopilosa
Yeah. Both Victoria-Reginae and Bracteosa grow alongside it and survived single digits here in the Austin area. It’s probably worth testing

Re: Agave albopilosa
Another update on this one; as we just moved and my super-shady spot is gone, I'm trying to adjust this one to more light. So far so good, but it is winter after all. Lots of offsets...I wonder if that's tissue culture influenced, or if it will always do this. Time will tell!
