GIMP Tutorial: Resize and save as JPEG

The software is powerful but unorthodox. I found the help file very good. Let me try to provide a few pointers. Then use the help file to fill in any blanks.

1. Use the crop tool (outline the part of the pic you want to keep with your mouse), then left-click.

2. Resize the cropped image by selecting Image/Scale Image from the GIMP menu.

Click the little chain links to lock them (directly to the left of the px button), then change the width to 800, then tab to the next field, then click the Scale button.

3. Save the file: Select File/Export from the GIMP menu.

Then click Select File Type (By Extension) to open the file type menu.

Choose JPEG image from Select File Type (lower left), then click the Export button (lower right).

A little window pops up (Export Image as JPEG) that allows you to set the quality to 30. Then click Export.

Feel free to ask questions if anything was unclear.

One more thing you might want to try. I was playing with GIMP's automatic settings, and I like one very much. White Balance brightens the photos up very nicely. Try the others too, but White Balance is the one I really liked. Have fun!
