Aloe ballii

#1

Post by Geoff »

Though often confused with Aloe ballyi, due to the near same spelling AND pronunciation (I am assuming), this Zimbabwe species could not be more different from Aloe ballyi. It is a small, pale green, thin-leaved, toothless, suckering, sprawling species that I personally have found difficult but which is growing well at a local arboretum (Huntington Gardens) with little special care in a fairly shady location. Flowers are very simple and occur in mid summer and are pale orange with slight greenish tips early on. Not one of the more ornamental of the Aloes.
