This is one of my many favorite tree aloes from South Africa. It is a solitary species with long, arching, deeply channeled leaves and tall, unbranched tubular flowers. Younger plants produce a single flower normally (in winter), but as plants age and grow they crank out more and more of these spectacular flowers. Bees REALLY love this plant!

When not in flower, this plant can be confused with Aloe thraskii and angelica, which have similar leaves, though usually not quite as long and drooping

My own seed-grown plant, which sometimes turns impressively red during early spring. 3.5 years old now. Was not as red this year as in 2022, but still quite red. I'm hoping it will produce a flower stalk sometime in the near future...
