Cactus Photo Gallery Tour

#1

Post by Gee.S »

We have added and are currently working on a new Cactus Photo Gallery Tour, intended as an aid in identifying cacti, and organized by genus. The section is available from within the Cactaceae Gallery section.

To date we have completed the following sections:

Cereus
Cleistocactus
Copiapoa
Coryphantha
Cylindropuntia
Echinocereus
Echinopsis
Ferocactus
Gymnocalycium
Mammillaria A-L
Mammillaria M-Z
Melocactus
Opuntia
Parodia
Pilocereus
Rebutia
Stenocereus
Turbinocarpus

We will add and complete more genera as time permits. Have a look and feel free to add comments and suggestions.

Ron,
are you positive the one you listed as Opuntia phaeacantha is actually that?

Nope, just copied a pic from the Gallery, though Geoff's IDs are generally good.

I agree with Peter that is almost certainly not O. phaeacantha. That pic looks a lot like O. streptacantha and maybe got miss posted? Looking at the O. phaeacantha entry I think that the first of the four pics and the last one are it, of the other two the one that is not in the gallery is really hard to judge, but the picture in the photo gallery is forming a huge trunk and appears more like a treeform Opuntia, which O. phaeacantha is most certainly not.
It is what it is!

Ron, the first and fourth pictures represent O. phaeacantha much better, the one posted does not really share any chareacteristics of phaeacantha at all.
I can go through all of them, if you want, but it would get boring and technical ;)

Done!

Nominate additional genera for inclusion here. Genera must have at least ten species represented in the Gallery.

Please note that only those photos hosted on the Agaveville server can be added to the Tour.
