Habitat: Bloomquest 2017

Post Number:#1  Postby Gee.S » Thu Jul 27, 2017 4:36 pm

Out today in search of blooms, specifically those of two extremely rare cacti, Mammillaria thornberi and Coryphantha robustispina. One of these cacti is considered critically endangered, while the other will be, probably within the next few years. Since we have only vague notions of proper bloom time for these guys, expectations are low. So all things considered, we did pretty well, finding plenty of thornberi bloomers. Not so lucky with our Coryphantha, but we did find them starting to bud up, and found three new plants, bringing our grand total up to ten. And for the first time, we actually found two plants within eyeshot of each other. We may return in a couple weeks for another shot at Coryphantha blooms.

Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".
