Some random variegated Agave
Snapped some random shots this AM of a few Agave
Snow Glow, Sun Glow - they're the same thing in my opinion (I have both). I can make my Snow Glow look like Sun Glow with more light, and I can make my Sun Glow look like Snow Glow with less light. Rancho Tambor striated Desert Diamond verschaffeltii Kissho Kan filifera (to the right - one of several parryi Huatchucensis 'Excelsior'. That one sold to me as Truncata, which was the third time I'd fallen for buying a reputed Truncata variegate of one kind or another to find it's something else. Moral - be very careful buying young offsets of A. parryi Truncata variegates that are not of the known yellow variegated variety. ) this was acquired as pygmae (same as seemaniana), but now that it's grown, I can't really tell it apart from my Tradewinds Eye Scream another Kissho Kan (Rum Runner is behind, and a real parryi Truncata above left

Re: Some random variegated Agave
My apologies.
I could have gone on with a lot more photos, but I got tired. Still, no excuse for that omission.
I even cleaned out the leaf litter first...and yes - there was blood. This is my least favorite plant getting hands and arms in there among the leaves - very unforgiving of the slightest miscalculation of movement.

Re: Some random variegated Agave
Thanks Stan.
Regarding 'Cornelius', I have to defer to the following information:
http://www.smgrowers.com/products/plant ... nt_id=2718" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
https://www.plantdelights.com/collectio ... -cornelius" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.fresnocss.com/plantdocs/cornelius.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Whatever it is, it's a super fun plant. Takes full sun without any issues. Also, it took this last winter outside very well- handled 26 F and a dozen freezes (no protection), and the rain didn't bother it either. Rubbery leaves that flex like no other Agave I can think of, wavy undulated margins, and a nice variegation pattern. Also, it doesn't get too big. A few feet wide, and a couple feet tall. I have a lot of pups...
The photo above that one is of some vic-regs. That's my absolute favorite Agave, the white variegates of it, which is my excuse for having more than my fair share.

Re: Some random variegated Agave
Got any more pics of the handsome variegate in the lower right of the verschaffeltii photo? Looks like some kind of striated macroacantha perhaps?

Yes, good eye. 100% correct.
Here are better photos from this AM to replace those 2 shots from last night
This is the one you noticed to the side of 'Becky'
Striata And my favorite of the macs - Medio Picta And I guess I should complete the trifecta with the common one - 'Blue Ribbon' cultivar

Re: Some random variegated Agave
Thank you. It's been a while since I've taken fresh photos of many. I noticed many of the photos in the files are a year or two old - so I guess it was overdue. Most look much nicer since with more growing time.
Here's a couple more of my newer ones on different ends of the spectrum growth wise. Fast, and slow.
A. 'Sharkskin' varieted - aka A. x nigra 'Shark Bite' I've had this one now a little over a year, and it's doubled in size. Fast growing. I'd love to see some pups at some point. A. parviflora Medio Picta - slow This has doubled in size... in 3 years. I know I said "newer", but that's because the bulk of my variegates were all acquired even before this one. I don't see much any more that I either don't have, or just plain can't afford! Some of the more rare ones are just so super expensive. The other "problem" is I'm just more into Aloes these days. Oh dear...
Small, but pretty.

Re: Some random variegated Agave
I've been growing these from 2 very small offsets for two years now, and they're finally at a size where I believe I'll be seeing a notable improvement in the growth rate this year. I've been babying them so far, but now they're in a spot which will shed stronger light on them, so I expect the variegation will become more pronounced too - form should improve too. They're perhaps a bit etiolated, but that will straighten itself out. Very excited!

Re: Some random variegated Agave
Thanks! I'm hoping they perform like the non-variegated colorata. If so, perhaps next year I'll be seeing pups.

Re: Some random variegated Agave
^ Don't count on it. My blunt-toothed A. colorata is slow as snails...
And of course this doesn't speak so much to variegates I suppose, but like A. zebra, A. colorata is another Agave that must be tortured outdoors to look its best.

Lemon lime variegation is so cool looking. I have precious few plants with that trait, only A. americana (both mediopicta and marginata versions) and A. 'Sharkbite'.

Re: Some random variegated Agave
If you check the last gallery photo, that's what mine will look like. I know, because that is my source. Like Gee says, it does need more light, which it is getting already starting now. I like the lemon lime variegation pattern, but I prefer when the lemon part is more yellow. I think they will get there.

Yeah, we've all seen that now and again right? Looks lemon-lime until you give it some REAL sun, then Whoa!

Re: Some random variegated Agave
That’s a nice collection you have there. Since a lot of yours are potted up when do you report them? Hopefully this summer I can plant most of mine out in the yard. But wondered if Agave like to be pot bound like some cacti or repot them as soon as roots pop out the bottom of the pot? Thanks.

Re: Some random variegated Agave
Well, since you are increasingly into aloes, it's probably time to think about divesting yourself of those beautiful agaves and sending them all to me....
