Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Re: $10k agave
I like that in it's old age (10 years it says), that it's quite compact. But... uh.... 10K?
Curious it's only 8" wide? That's got to be an error, because it also says the pot is an 8" pot, and the plant obviously is larger than the pot...
You know, for that kind of money, I'd sell my 3 largest combined, with all of their pups too!

Re: $10k agave
Actually, that seller is quite reputable. I've bought from him, and sold to him. Not sure why that plant is priced so exorbitantly high... must be some sort of reason or strategy. Maybe just get some attention to his other listings? I was trying to think of a price I'd sell that plant for. I think even 2K might be really hard to get...especially on a venue like Ebay. I think that would be the sort of plant sitting as a centerpiece in a nursery with a lot of customer traffic, with the idea that someone someday might really want it badly enough to pay a lot. I really can't see anyone interested in paying that kind of money though. Good luck though!

Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it on a given day. Put that plant up for grabs in an auction with no reserve and let's see what it's value really is. A few hundred bucks probably.

Just a tad ambitious, I'd say? Good luck to the seller. As mentioned many times here prior, I like these albomarginated vic-regs quite a lot and have a very nice 8" one and a couple offsets originally purchased in 2013. Two months ago, passed on this one for USD 600.00 at a well-known local nursery. At least 14"/35 cm across. There was quite a nice-looking large plant on eBay earlier this year for a grand at "Buy it Now" price and it sat there quite some time. Perhaps Spiney knows its fate.
Can't say it ran away, even at that price. There have to be thousands of these things as large offsets or at the 3-4" size waiting in the wings in private collections and nurseries in the US and in Thailand. From what have seen on eBay recently I *guess* there's a fairly solid/sustainable bid for them now at smaller sizes between fifty and a hundred bucks with nicer-looking established small plants fetching a bit more.
