Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Southern California Huntington Gardens, March- this is one of my favorite Cacti.. .though sadly it is not one of the hardier ones.. temps in the low 20s with high winds this last month did a job on mine (left them out not believing the 9b rating they had) and they did indeed suffer some burns... but not horrible.. they obviously are going to survive and do OK in my climate... so that that make them a 9a cactus then, or do they have to go untouched down to the lowest temp in 9a (20F). I think they will survive 20F also, but not over days of that temp, nor if rained on at the same time.
