^ Hey, I recognize that plant! An old friend I haven't seen in 14 years. Very interesting to see the growth of this cactus compared to my 2006 photos of the same. It miraculously escaped unharmed during the Cave Creek Complex fire of 2005.

These aren't all crests -- two are crests and three are dichotomous splits. These splits are just about as rare/unusual as crests. One snap shows an odd saguaro arm that appears midway between cresting and splitting. All found on a single hike.
