"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

South of Chinati Mountains in Texas. I’ve been told these are all in fact Echinocereus enneacanthus var. enneacanthus with some being an inermis type mutation possibly from light, heat, or environmental conditions.
