It was the only sign of a frosted palm at the BBG. I was told it might be Sabal yappa. But that has a thin trunk from photos I've seen. But,what do I know?

Based on the 'frosting' Sabal yapa could be a possibility... usually that species has a thinner, greenish trunk, but if that plant was grown really 'hard' and not given as much water as it would have liked, I suppose it could be more stumpy than usually is. Most Sabals look alike to me, though usually yapa stands out a bit... but all the Sabals are so variable depending upon how and where they are grown, I have learned to be more careful about trying to identify them.

It might be just a Sabal uresana. They might be hardy, but the fronds wear down in a cool wet winter is my guess looking at DG photo's of them in even balmy soucal.
Thanks Geoff.
