This plant has this name because, at it was introduced into cultivation from Madagascan seed sources, it was thought to be Dypsis bejofo, a real described species that is somewhat similar in appearance, but NOT this palm. Now it referred to as Dypsis species 'Bejoufa', but that hardly helps much to clear up the confusion. It is, however, a spectacular palm and many eagerly await its official description from Dr. Dransfield in the near future (though that wait has been over 15 years so far). There are hundreds of these palms in cultivation and many are flowering, but so far, no luck. It is a pretty stout species with a lot of nice color, from its bright yellow-green to rust-orange petioles, orangish to white crownshaft, white ringed trunk and its massive, mildly plumose to nearly flat, pinnate leaves with wide, bright green leaflets. Cold hardiness is down to around 30F.
