clustering, palmate, dioecious swamp-loving species from most of the northern South American countries. This is a bluish-green-leaved, highly ornamental species with nearly white stems (younger suckers), whitish undersides of the deeply split, stiff leaves and numerous thick, sometimes blunted spines/thorns along the ringed, bamboo-like trunks. These plants grow up as tall as 60' but most of the plant is much shorter. Well groomed palms make excellent specimens in tropical climates as long as provided plenty of water. It is NOT a cold tolerant palm by any means. Not sure exactly how this species differs from the two other Mauritiella species, but this one appears to be the most commonly grown one by far.
