massive, pinnate, monoecious, solitary palm from the Caroline Islands in Micronesia. This is the only Metroxylon species that is not monocarpic, and can live many years flowering yearly. Leaves are up to 30' long, somewhat plumose with arching leaves and upright leaflets. Petioles have ornamental ridges/wrinkles along them. Fruits are ornamental as well being 3" in diameter and having a woven, carved appearance. Palms grow up to 60'-80' tall. They are very tropical in their needs and cannot survive in a Mediterranean climate.
