Normanbya normanbyi

aka Black Palm: This slender though tallish Australian palm is solitary, closely ringed, monoecious and has pinnate/plumose leaves with narrowly wedge-shaped leaflets that make it look a bit like a slender Wodyetia palm. It is a monotypic genus. Though not commonly grown in California, it handles a pretty good amount of frost, tolerating temps down to 27F, but is intolerably slow in such a climate.
