Recovering from a near total loss of roots 2 years ago (gophers?). First flushing again, now in a pot. A good Cycad for the Bay Area. When it was healthy,it flushed every year.

That's some cultivar of it,or did I forget what a flush looks like? Possible. I remember them as bluish to start, then green.

They have stayed pretty yellow so far. I bought 2 them from Italy of all places. It was just advertised a Spinulosum but the fronds showed to have extra blue after hardening. That was based off what I saw in the photographs, not anything the seller advertised (although they confirmed when I asked). The price was right so I took a chance. Time will tell.

How do you guys get imported stuff? Mine is almost always confiscated. Only some aquarium mosses made it through. I would hate to take a chance on $50 of something on up.

I think it depends where you’re importing from. Mexico and certain Asian countries there is a high risk. Europe there is almost none. Actually some of the stuff from Europe came with a phytosanitary certificate attached, without me even asking . I’ve also bought a few things from Australia and they made it over within a week, week and a half tops.

Funny, now that I think about it. I bought an old ferocactus from Italy, they shipped it in a multilayer paper sack thing. Terrible idea. It got wet and the bag tore. The inspections center in Queens, New York took it, put it in a box, relabeled my address, and even slapped a sticker that said “ We want to make sure your package made it to you” . No phytosanitary certificate, proper declaration, or anything attached. It’s like they treat Western Europe as an extension of the U.S.
