"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

They hate winters wet. Last years rains- even on the edge of the porch was too much. Luckily about 1/4 of it is left. It should return to glory in 2 years time.
