Anyone know the cold hardiness on Nolina Nelsonii? I’ve read in some places it’s sub 0 F, other places say 0 F, and I’ve read 10F. Also heard some died in the Austin freeze of 2021 and those temps got down to 0.

Thanks!

I don’t know of any that died, although the shaded one at Barton Springs Nursery slowly started dying about 6 months later. I had a friend with a Nolina matapensis that died.

It is indeed! So many of my favourite plants are from just a few square miles around there - Agave montana, Agave gentryi, Nolina nelsonii, Nolina hibernica, Dasylirion quadrangulatum. You can see them all in one day!

I'm not sure it is safe any more. Last time I was there by La Joya at the top of the mountain we encountered some paramilitary police in an amoured truck, wearing kevlar armour and carrying automatic weapons. I don't think they were looking at agaves :(

Either that or the agaves have gotten a lot tougher.
