Frost doses Firesticks out..

#1

Post by Stan »

Its alive and this has happened before...but after a good 3 winter break from this, winter damage returned. It recovers when spring and warm returns. This is what 10a gets that 10b does not.

We have this plant growing here in 8b and it still manages to survive every winter, though looks terrible for a few months.

An Euphorbia tirucalli still alive in 8b, that's what we are talking about ? Surprising.

That is. But,I do remember in 2007 an over 6' bushy all green E.tirucalli- my largest died that winter from 30for so. It was a few mornings of that. This Firesticks did live through that and it was much, much, smaller in a large pot at the time. On the other hand a smaller all green E.tirucalli in ground survived. I ended up digging it up and putting it in a pot..it has never shown any frost damage..not even this year. Different clones of all could mean luck is involved. If you want one of these in a colder zone..start out with a few, from different sources.

Firestick is the common name of this species or a cv. name of a clone which flushes sometimes while other clones stay green ?
