Some things just don't want to reduce foliage. Although if you have one large in ground and dug it out potted it,pruned it hard..it's going to look closer to what you want. He has other things tropical Bonsai to look over his vids.
btw- Euphorbia tirucalli,the green species is hardy in the bay area and a fast grower. Mine rooted through a 5 gallon and into the ground..I never do a thing and its dense,and green.

Hayward Ca. 75-80f summers,60f winters.
