As you can see- it had at one time been gophered. It then regrew ( I wondered why 2 years ago it skipped near a summers growth) and then yesterday, while I was pulling the Red Maurelii banana's leafs off,I scooped the pile and walked away. Well,I guess one leaf base had caught the Cyphostemma and it just yanked right out of the ground.
Thats when I see where it had been cropped by Gopher teeth then grew a few longer new roots. Not enough to hold it down in the now wet soils. I dont want to pot grow it- its not fat enough so,I guess try and put it in ground someplace and put wire fencing under it. At least give a few years of gopher free rooting. I hope.
My Cyphostemma juttae survived gophers, then me.

Today just leafing out. The transplanting no doubt caused the very long dormancy. Usually it should be this far by April.

Very nice show Stan. I have tried that plant a few times, but it did not last the journey, even in a pot in my greenhouse. Jkw

I haven't been the best keeper JK. I had it in a pot for many years..it never grew much. I planted it..and that spot not only later was hit by the gopher...but my Mango shrub-tree began to shade it.
I've seen this in the perfect set up as at UC Berkeley. On a slope, with all day sun. That's the only way to go in our cool summers since I wonder if even in Berkeley will they ever approach the huge plants seen in soucal. Hayward is warmer...but I dont have a spot any more open thats all day sun.
I could jump up the light if I removed my big Ash tree....but that would make my car bake in summer sun peel paint off. So life makes plant keeping a trade off once again.
