Most are real- but plenty are faked,plenty more have color's turned way up. Some make no sense as to why they lie. One I run across all the time is the "Sacramento dry garden"..that has Firesticks and a few other tender plants that don't grow in Sacramento but do fine in what is obviously a Soucal garden.

I'm right to be suspicious then? There was a variegated Aztekium with the weirdest of colours that I just couldn't believe.

There's lots of photoshopped plant pics online. If it looks too good to be true, it is.
