Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

I'd say Homo sapiens, myself. Unlike pretty much any other species on the planet we have the ability to change or destroy the habitats of other species. And we're doing a pretty good job of that at the moment.

Happy non-denominational holidays to all!

No doubt true Paul, but I'll argue that "The second most important mammal in the world" is a far less compelling title. Besides, the author may consider H. sapiens a virus.

Did you know that Arizona is home to the second fastest terrestrial animal of the planet? Not many do. But everyone knows the cheetah is fastest.
