That's a very smart idea. More power to Ford. More companies should do this, even though it's a publicity stunt more or less.

It sure seems to me that covering the entire roof of this facility with solar panels would have been a far less expensive and far more productive use of Ford's discretionary profit.
At least the solar panels would eventually pay for themselves.

In fact the book is a thorough reasoning for a better use of raw material, smart architectural concepts so that the very notion of waste disappears (Hence the name of the book).
You cannot summarize the concept to a short term profitability issue.
