Very nice caudex Mick. I have quite a few young plants, but the large plant, over six foot, I have outdoors in a pot and I do allow it to grow regularly, and trim it back every now and then. Last year it got to about eight feet. Jkw

The timeline for a very fat trunk ( not bulbous, but fat near round) in the bay area is 30 years. But at seven, everybody can see what's going on. Just avoid at all costs plants stunted..they will NEVER swell in the ground. I tried..just got taller..not wider. Gopher got it.

I've just planted one out. Supposed to have some hardiness to it.

Just. Sprouting from right near the base of the trunk, all the top growth and branches died.
