Agave
"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Going to put this where it belongs. My biggest/oldest D. quad is setting to flower this year. Second time since I have owned it, 3rd time in its lifetime from the look of the trunk. Previously the bud started to form in high summer, rested over winter and continued the following spring, however it got damaged over winter by frost. This year I am hoping it will all be done before winter as it is much earlier.

What a specimen! Clearly it enjoys the South Essex riviera ;)

Like that Butia as well.

The Dasy was a big buy - my most expensive plant purchase but the nursery made me a cheap enough deal I couldn't refuse.

I planted the Butia in 1997 - it was around the height of the top of the bricks. At that age by rights it should have an extra yard or so of trunk but it is a bit dry in this corner of the UK for growth to be very quick.

If it was faster it would probably cast more shade over the dasy. Everything is as it's meant to be.

True. I hadn't considered that but it is on the south side of the dasy.
