Very handsome. Perhaps contrast will improve with time. Another striking sp. that is underutilized in dry landscapes, IMO.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Thanks, not much to look at, but it sure comes in handy during summer. Funny, doesn't look like much, but there at least 100 potted plants shown above.
Can you see S. pinguicula in 005.jpg? I checked a couple days ago, and it is now safely rooted in.

I thought I might have seen it! Front-ish left? Awesome that it's already rooted. Did you pot it with some of the stilts exposed? It was growing with almost all of its roots below the soil in its previous pot. I've heard different things about whether or not the stilt roots will tolerate being buried. i figure they're probably fine either way in a good mix. I just love to see the little green roots take off

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Good eye, right in front of S. arborescence! Never had a stilt-root before, so I don't know what I'm doing and planted it as if I might a non-stilt-root. My plan is to pull it out of that small container next Spring and into something large enough to accommodate some offsetting. That way, offsets can stilt as they see fit. I just figure it's probably a better idea when it's the plant's idea.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Sounds like a good plan, especially with the larger container. I've seen several photos of S. pinguicula where their offsets are completely outside of the pot and reaching for soil that will never come.

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Yikes! I'm thinking a fair-sized shallow container with a couple Sans and a couple Stapeliads would be nice. I have one little Stapeliad here that's actually a ground cover, so Sans can just push 'em out of the way. Just can't make it too large to move out of the cold as needed.

Every afternoon this same little finch sets up shop on my fountain and watches me in the house. Low fear little bird hangs in even when I go outside sometimes.

That sounds like it will be super cool. What kind of Stapeliad is that?Gee.S wrote:Yikes! I'm thinking a fair-sized shallow container with a couple Sans and a couple Stapeliads would be nice. This, Huernia bayeri. I resurrected this little guy from two small dying pieces in a long neglected raised bed that had been trampled by javelina. Left to its own devices, it will spread to form a thick mat. I'm really pleased its back, but have been struggling with the notion of finding a home. This feels like the right idea.

Vieg - A. seemanniana ssp. pygmaea is certainly a beaut! Thanks for sharing the photo & the research.
Brooks, your blue cactus is among the bluest I've seen! And what a beautiful fat form! Is it pilosocereus pachycladus, or another type?

Steph, it's melocactus azureus I believe. It cam from a grower in Tucson in 2014. Has done well here, about doubled in size. I can't recall the name of her nursery--maybe spiney something???

Re: A few shots around the garden...
Those are some amazing pictures of some amazing species and forms of Agave. The A. zebra is totally a show stopper! I have Utahnesis ahere in a pot that I keep on my porch in winter to keep it out of the rain. A horrida is nice! I wish I could grow A. guadalajarana here. Macraoantha is nice but can not grow in ground here. Actually i would grow any and all of these if I could. I do have several you show that live and do well here in the humid wet high rainfall Upstate SC.

Wow, just WOW!
What a beautiful garden filled with all those agaves. You're living my agave-dream .
Most winters here are soaking wet combined with temperatures below zero degrees celsius (-10°C).
I will be putting this thread in my favorite bookmarks!

Sure, but did you see the giant weberi trying to eat my house? I wonder if that's covered by homeowner's insurance...
