Re: Lime Fizz seedling
I like that - thanks for showing. So, KG's Lime Fizz aka Franco is one parent - do you know the other? I'd say, in terms of what I like, that's an improvement over the one parent plant.

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
Right. 'Franco' is the other name for 'Lime Fizz', one of those KG hybrids with 2 names. Maybe a cross with 2 of them, and a remix of the genes contained therein???

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
wonderful variation in the progeny! This last one and the last in post #5 remind me of Aloe 'Sunrise'. Are they sibilings? In the caption of post #5 it says 'Pickled Pink' x 'Medium Well Done', I would expect the cross of two spiny cultivars to generate spiny seedlings, not something with raised ridges, but it must be the interplay of the genetic backgrounds I guess.

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
Hi Marlon, Yes they are sibs from the same parents. The 8 week old seedlings are PP x MWD.

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
Marlon, regarding the PP x MWD seedling as given, the margins likely were influenced by the MWD side.
Renee O'Connel's PP's parentage given is: Seed Parent (a selection of) - Aloe rauhii X Aloe parvula. Pollen parent - Aloe parvula X Aloe capitata. Nothing there that would create those kinds of margins on the seedling shown.
Although we don't know the parentage of KG's 'Medium Well Done' - we can guess that based on many of his other creations, those often typical margins seem to be a commonality among them.
Here's my (tiny) A. 'Medium Well Done' (although the gallery shows Geoff's much better photos of a larger plant that illustrates a wide assortment of teeth on the margins - co-joined, forked, and individual). It appears that closer to the base of the leaf, the teeth are more likely to be merged, and towards mid-leaf more likely to be forked, and towards the tip more likely to be individual. Photo 4 in the gallery is a great closeup of these margins.

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
Thank you Woodlily, yes it is an amazing variation in texture and color. Some of them do remind me of KG's 'Sunrise' a nice hybrid with a palette of colors ranging from yellow to orange to red.Woodlily74 wrote:Yes Marlon , siblings out of LF.

Below is a picture of 'Sunrise' from Dave's Garden. It is similar to your seedling in post #5. Yours is even more colorful

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
I'm very impressed with 'Franco' aka 'Lime Fizz' as a parent plant for seedlings. I know it's only 1/2 of the story, but still....noted.
Thanks for all the pics Woody.

Re: Lime Fizz seedling
Just came across yet another LF seedling it was sitting in the back shelf high on the window. I like the colors on it similar to KG's Starfire.
