Giant Black prince echeveria>BP

#1

Post by Neli »

This belongs to my neighbour. A simple not well to do lady that has few echeverias only, but they all look amazing.
Look at this BP. It is close to 50 cm diameter. In a huge pot, outside getting morning sun. Planted in compost and sand 50% only, and fertilized with cow manure he he he.Many people ignore BP...they are just too common, but I prefer to make something WOW from a common plant. instead of just buying rare ones. I think she has achieved this even in old tyres.
I love it.

I haven't grown a lot of echeverias but Black Prince has impressed me both with tolerance to cold and heat. While a lot of my succulents were looking scalded in 105F temps this summer, BP just got blacker. This winter when a few of them melted at 26F it was totally unfazed. I will be thrilled if mine get that big.

I find that BP gets more Black/ darker that when in a bit of shade . In full sun goes lighter reddish and a bit bleached. But I agree, it is a hard core echeveria.

It is good to know what can be achieved with such a common plant.

That is one beautiful specimen. I am impressed not only with its size, but the uniformity of color and general healthy appearance of the plant.

I hope you will be inspired to grow one just like this.
