I don't have PJ but I do have it's sibling Dragon. I'm wondering if too will become a tree?

It must have taken several years to grow to that size. It's a recent introduction. Maybe 5 years or so?

Woody, PJ was released in 2011, so this trunk grew in six years.

Since PJ is a sibiling of Dragon, I assume it too will become tall in time. Remember both are F2 from a primary cross of parvula and divaricata, and the latter species is arborescent.

Marlon, that's quite a specimen. 6 years sounds about right to me.

Here are two shots of my 'Dragon'... one 2 1/2 years ago, and the other recent - as a glimpse of the growth rate for at least this one. When it came, there was a stem about 3" long, but I buried it beneath the soil line...
While the stem hasn't added much height from the bottom of the rosette, it's a bit of an illusion because there are way more many leaves and the plant above the soil line has bulked up substantially. So, yes, the stem has added height, except that there's a lot of leaves growing off of it. :)) If I didn't water it as much as I do, I expect some of those lower leaves would dry up, exposing more stem, with a look on it's way resembling the OP plant.

My PJ is a much younger plant, and the only difference I can tell between the two sibling productions is the color. 'Dragon' ranges from green to red/purple depending on season/light and 'Princess Jack' ranges from the same green as 'Dragon' to a whitish appearance when it colors up.

I have Aloe 'California' it sends out a million pups right? Only ONE has gone straight up for 4' with a thick trunk. So,I would guess the rest of the Aloe PJ owners might not ever see their's trunk.

Different animal, Stan.
Blue Elf - aka 'California' - a shrubby aloe with humilis thought to be in the parentage.

'Dragon' and 'PJ' seedlings have taken on the tree-aloe habit influence of A. divaricata. They're TC clones of the original selected seedlings. I'd like to see one that does not grow a trunk within a few years. ::wink::

Well,I guess "they" are getting closer and closer to designer knobby tree Aloes with colorful foliage. I'm all for that.
