I only post to the fossil forum, facebook (rarely) and here. I just turn my head sideways when I see them and it doesn't bother me and Believe me when I say I'm not criticizing this fabulous forum.
This upside down photo problem happens on cactiguide forum as well.

I've tried both ways also from my iPad and they always turn out sideways, even though the thumbnail is correct. The only way I can post correctly is by sending the photo to my PC first, then posting from there. I post pics on many other sites, and this is the only one that does this.

Try it again. Curious to see if the update helps to resolve the issue.

So my phone did not used to do the sideways thing but after the last iOS update it started doing it. Now I have to edit the photo. In this case I cropped it. After that it posted fine.

Until I see another sideways photo, I'm going to hope the forum update has cured the issue.

Here you go... flipped 90 degrees clockwise

As previously figured out landscape photos do not have the issue:

There's a developer who has been trying to develop a phpBB extension for this for two years. Still not there...

I realized that there is another iOS update, so I will try again after I have installed that - as said my phone only just started doing this... never really had the issue before... and it is doing it on other forums too...

The latest update did not resolve the sideways pictures for me, but I will spare you the visual evidence.
