A few years ago Plants Delights Nursery offered a Sabal Minor that supposedly grows naturally near Welfare, Texas, which is west of San Antonio. It is likely the most Westerly know population of Sabal Minor. A few members of another board have gone to the area but have been unable to locate any sign of them.
Yesterday on my way back on a trip, with about a hour of light left, I drove around the area. Pretty much everything in the area is privately held. I wasn’t able to locate the population PDN has pictured(I’m hearing it’s on private land), but I did locate a few growing in a creek bed. Likely grown from seed of a population further upstream. I at least confirmed they do exist in the area.
Here are a few pictures of the area, native plants, two nearby towns, the Welfare general store, and the creek bed.
