Sabal palmetto

#1

Post by KLC »

These 2 year old seedlings have developed a big underground structure I’m guessing is a water reserve for them. This species is new to me so Ive never seen this, I can imagine how large this gets when the tree becomes bigger. Sabal palmetto is also the only species of palm Ive grown with a near 100% germination.

They and Sabal mexicana are pretty drought tolerant. Not quite Washingtonia but they’ve gone through this summer with basically no rain. They have them around town in city landscapes with no irrigation.
