Need help to identify this agave's problem

Hi all,

I am hoping someone can tell me what has gone wrong with this agave in my backyard.

Please see pictures attached.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

It looks extremely dry to me. Where do you live? Do you water it?

This look could also be part of the decline an agave experiences when weevil grubs start gnawing.... early stage, but...
So let's hope it is just underwatering.

Grab the middle and wiggle it, and see if it comes loose...if not, water should help. If so, it's toast.

I live in Tucson, AZ. I have about a dozen or more agaves but only a few are hurting and leaves falling, going brown, etc. The others seem to be healthy for now.

I grabbed the plant to see if it was loose at the base and it was firm.

Attached is a picture of another having trouble...

Those are looking a lot more like snout weevil

Weevils. You'll need to get on board with a preventative maintenance regimen to prevent recurrence, once you've cleaned up this mess. Start treating ASAP, if you hope to save some of your agaves.
