But in many of the prime agricultural areas we are plagued by not being able to get rid of the excess phosphorus and potassium from animal manure. Government regulations restrict applying additional manure to crop fields when the P or K levels test above a certain level. That is the situation here, and look at the restrictions now in place in Denmark.

In the UK there are many rules about when, how and how much fertiliser can be applied. However, there is very little enforcement. Only warning letters have been issued and no farmer has ever lost subsidies over breaching those regulations, or been fined.
