Bottle palms hardier then thought.

My three palms grown from seed are doing well in the SF bay area climate and two winters now. They even threw out a frond in May. A very cool May. You need to acclimate them if Florida grown and also use a fast draining mix. They will rot in too much peat when the cool weather arrives. I had a Lowes bought bottle palm die that way years ago. So I gave up until years later the bro in law in Florida gave me seeds. What a surprise.

I have one in a container. I’ve seen guys try them in ground along the Texas coast. It’s not until Brownsville/Harlingen that they become a long term palm. I saw atleast a couple that somehow made it the last 3 years in Brownsville. They saw low 20’s in 2021. High 20’s this past winter. Before that 1989 was the last freezing temperatures.
