well that last photo is certainly NOT Eric the Red, but Aloe vaombe (nice example of one, too). Great tree aloe from Madagascar and an awesome flowerer... and will produce thousands of aloes seeds that are super easy to germinate and grow more aloes from. I was not aware Eric the Red was a tree aloe... you sure those other photos are of that plant? Still, I cannot think of what else they are, though.

Agreed, last pic is not 'Eric the Red'. You're asking though about zpunout's pics, right? I've seen some chunky 'Erik the Red's though most getting wide like A. arborescens, not going up on a single stem. Could be a pruning thing...

I wasn't aware of Eric the Red being a branching tree aloe neither until I found those in Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane, Australia. They were imported from South Africa by Mike Dent who has a fabulous garden. I have a couple of these at home which are fighting for space as they are branching now. They are beginning to bloom right now in June (winter) here. Here is a picture from last July.

I messaged the Ruth Bancroft Garden to ask if 'Erik the Red' has been cold hardy for them and they said no, its tolerance has been 26-28F. I think that's in line with how it's advertised, but I was hoping it might still go lower. Good to know!
