I was thinking how right now is that long cool spring California is famous for and weeds out the weak tropicals. Lows of 50 are no problem it's the weeks to go of cool days and wet weather. We can always count on Bougainvillea!
But should you want to count on Bougainvillea?
I get more bloody from pruning my Bougie than playing with my cacti or agaves....
I keep mine potted . Years ago I removed an old Barbara Karst as it just ate up all the front yard and needed constant pruning to stay put.
I forget the name of what I have...but it starts apricot and fades into pink.
Heaviest rainstorm of the season i've driven in was yesterday. Buckets had my wipers on turbo fast. The still good news is that the 70's and maybe an 80f are just a week away.
Back to feeling like spring again. In San Francisco yesterday it was comfortable with the sea breeze at Pier 39. Not much to photo.Maybe a couple of pics later when I download them.
We’re getting a rain/snow mix this week but we’re definitely on the upward swing. Cannot wait to haul all the plants outside and start the massive hermit crab process of planting the big plants and upsizing all the smaller ones to grow for the summer.

The lack of sunshine here is getting pretty depressing.
I lasted less than 2 years in Washington state for that reason. It is not rare to have more than 20 days of rain per month in the winter where I was and that wasn’t even the rainiest spot in the state. Forks, WA gets a nice average 110” per year.

No wonder all those grunge bands emerging from Seattle in the late eighties and early nineties were having such positive lyrics
I think we are finally done with winter. It will likely freeze again but we’re on the up and up and I think most of the dead is dead now.
This will be a funny one if it survives. Jury is still out. Quite a bit of amputation. Agave ‘Crazy Horse’:

Another one barely hanging on. Agave parryi from Mt. Lemmon. Sown from seed in early 2022 so it had a year before it went in the ground. Fortunately I have many other (now larger) backups ready to go:
