Ferocactus cylindraceus in habitat

These grow on the south bank of the Colorado river near the west entry of Grand Canyon in north AZ.

Yes Paul. I'm on a business trip and a business partner surprised me with a helicopter trip to Grand Canyon. I have arranged my flight back to Europe so that I have a few days to myself to explore some places with a higher density of Agavaceae 😉

Time to go utahensis hunting.

"American aloe plant," 1797, from Greek Agaue, proper name in mythology (mother of Pentheus), from agauos "noble," perhaps from agasthai "wonder at".

Those are superb plants. The accepted name is Ferocactus acanthodes.
