aka Spindle Palm: arguably the most ornamental of the Hyophorbes with a thick, swollen trunk (but less bulgy than a Bottle Palm's) topped with a turquoise, rapidly tapering crownshaft and a colorful head of large, green arching leaves with yellow and orange in the petioles and rachis. This is a good potted palm, indoor palm and excellent landscape palm in the tropics and marginally excellent Mediterranean climates (though more hardy than a bottle palm). This palm grows up about 20' tall but looks stocky and normal unlike a bottle palm that tall (that looks gangly and weak). This palm is from Rodrigues Island in the Mascarene group.

Re: Hyophorbe verschaffeltii
I've grown this one from seed. It took 3 months to germinate them, and all of my seedlings survived. Mine are now just over 2 years old:

Very attractive palms when young. One of mine seems to be on steroids or something, it's growing 3x faster than others from the same seed batch.
