Re: Pictures from Austin area
After closer examination it appears the habitat Yucca in post 99 and 100 are Native Yucca Torreyi, not Treculeana. The bluish color threw me off, but the form, and the fact they didn’t burn in February’s front seem to confirm they are Torreyi(or a possible hybrid with Treculeana, both are documented in the area)

Yucca from Kingsland area and Longhorn Cavern State Park. The first few shots I’ve taken before on overcast or snowy days

Mother nature prefers her rock done in rich woodgrain.
Yucca's,cactus and lush grass and groundcovers. If that can be done,I would do that instead of the garden with gravel.

Thanks. For what that cave lacked in stalagmites and stalactites it made up in unique textures. Most of it was Limestone and Dolomite, I forget the mineral that had the deep brown color. Maybe Mcvansoest knows.
I like the color the area has but I do appreciate rock cover in my personal garden for xeric plants Less cover for pests that soon make a mess of your collection.

Prior to man taking over, that cave was home to millions of Mexican Free Tail bats. They are gone but there were still a few Tri-colored bats. Not my photo, they were too difficult to zoom in on, but a professional photo in that cave.

An article in the NYT or maybe it was the LAT said that anything as a groundcover is better than artificial grass..how toxic rubber dust is used as a base and that has to be redone as time goes by.
Love that creek photo. I could sit on a rock there and watch the native minnows swim and school all day..or hours at least.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
Yeah it was nice and shady there, people were swimming further down.
Artificial grass isn’t used here, but I could see a place like Phoenix or Las Vegas where someone might want a small slice of color in their yard. I personally prefer other ways of achieving it.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
Yeah people do it here. I guess better than real grass in terms of water usage. We had some at our old place for the dog, but it actually gets really hot in the sun, to the point that it is unpleasant to walk on even for the dog (or especially).
Also a PITA to clean with regards to dog pee...
Not doing that again.
Love the pictures of the creek!

Re: Pictures from Austin area
Yeah looks accurate. I’ll have to take some photos of the wildflowers in central Texas. Definitely far and beyond what we got on the Gulf Coast. I had previously thought it was mostly the Spring and they disappeared with summer heat, but no they migrate to just as intense summer species. There’s sunflowers all over.

What are the small shrubs with pink/white flowers? Also are the agaves next to it trimmed up? Odd looking but cool at the same time haha.
Need to get a Texanum eventually.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
The silver bush with purple flowers in post #117 is Texas Sage (Leucophyllum frutescens).
A lot of the local Agave were torched in February and trimmed that way after(“Pineappled”), which is why I haven’t really taken many agave pictures recently. Of course some people trim them that way so they can weed and mow easier, and a few people actually like the look and do it for that reason. Agave Ovatifolia, Lopantha, certain forms of Asperimma, Neomexicano, and Havardiana are the only Agave I’ve seen that didn’t take damage. I’ve photographed them in the past, so I haven’t bothered recently. But I may start adding them again.
