Pictures from Austin area
I moved to the Austin area. I know there’s atleast one other member on here from the area but thought I would post pictures of Agave, Yucca, etc. More to come, right now I have limited daylight.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
I have relatives there..and they praise the area. Living is low cost, taxes are low. But they move around as one is a pilot to be. Still,a year plus in Austin haven't heard a complaint.
Hayward? Don't get me started with the surviving here. Water, climate, everything a block away. That's it.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
Thanks guys. I’ve always liked the area, hoping to end up with a 1/2 acre or so just West near Lake Travis where the hills are steep. I’ll have more photos coming.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
I have yet to see an A.ovata in any front yard in the bay area. I did see a local news report on TV and the reporter was in front of a building that had a row of them and some ornamental grasses. Must be near city hall in San Jose..I never did see a street sign. I think thats why I went so long never having one. Can't want what you never see.
They do look so exotic "must have".

I’m sure the landscape company looks for any and every service to upsell to the landlord of a business park. I like most Yucca untrimmed but my Filifera and Rigida came that way and I’ve continued. I like the clean look on them.
If the sun would stop setting at 6 I’d have more photos. Hopefully a free weekend will come up.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
It's important to know that there are no agaves native in habitat to the Austin or the surrounding area. All you will see are agaves planted by landscapers or those who wish to transplant them onto their properties. Occasionally one might see agave lechuguilla, americana or protoamerica which have naturalized in open rocky habitat (since those will grow like weeds almost anywhere).
There are two yuccas which are native to Austin and the surrounding hill country. These are the smaller rupicola and the yucca pallida and these two will also hybridize together, and both are often commercially available and are outstanding beauties, however each type are low to the ground and easily controlled.
Most landscape service providers here, have very little experience with cultivation or manicuring yuccas or agaves so we do occasionally see yucca rostrata or thompsoniana trimmed of their beautiful hula skirts.

Okay thanks for the heads up. I guess I assumed the state in general had them pretty much. But I don’t know anything about Arizona haha.

Re: Pictures from Austin area
They are native in further South(Americana/Asperrima) and of course West Texas(Lechuguilla, Neomexicano, Havardiana, and their natural hybrids Gracilis, Glomerulifora, and the Havardiana/Neomexicano introgression).
Almost every other yard here in Austin has some sort of Americana or Proto-Americana Agave in it. There’s all kinds of variations and sizes. I’ve started to collect offsets from the more interesting(and accessible) specimen.

Any photos of your yard? Are you moved in? I still have pups...just waiting to spring to start my migration of pups and cuttings I want to send various people.

That’s a nice selection to view! That’s awesome and would like to see some of the pups your coming across. Did you dig up everything you planted in your previous yard and bring it with you.

Yeah, I dug everything up, still renting for now.I’m going to limit what’s going in the ground this time. I’ve also sold some stuff that wouldn’t work well out here.
Stan not really worth taking pictures right now. I’ll probably post a few individual pictures eventually .

Yeah, Blue Funkiana/lopantha. It melted pretty quick, but some of those pictures were 20-30 minutes further South/lower elevation. I don’t think they got quite as much .

Austin in the last days of January averages what we do...in March. 65. By the end of February, Austin is averaging 77f..and we won't get there until the last week of June.
