Ingens vs Ammak vs unknown - ID help!

#1

Post by Will »

Hi team,

Based in Western Australia here where resources are limited. For the last 6-12 months I have been trying to sort out the exact ID difference of the following Euphorbia:

As it stands regarding the imagines attached:

Images 1&2: E. ingens (Candelabra)

Images 3&4: ?unknown ?E. Erythraea f. Variegata

Images 5&6: ?unknown ?E. Erythraea

Images 7&8: E. Ammak Variegata

Images 9&10: ?unknown

I have seen that the E. In images 3&4 are often referred to as E. Ammak Variegata but also as E Erythraea variegata. a) the colouration is more white than yellow (Ammak), b) the undulations of the spines seem shorter/wavier. Also it looks to have similar spine pattern to E. In images 5&6?

Would 3&4 then be a variegated version of 5&6? So perhaps E. Erythraea?

E. 5&6 I have not been successful in finding images of a standard E Erythraea so cannot confirm.

E. 9&10 I believe/ have seen listed as Ingens online but have since been convinced Ingens is purely the Candelabra patterned (1&2).

Had a look through the image gallery at most species last night on here and unable to find 5&6 or 9&10.

I hope someone can put this confusion to rest for me! Thanks team!

The first photo I would say is a variegated E.ammak and the green is E.abyssinica. The last photo i would say is E.Ingens. In between those photos very unsure.

Thanks Stan,

I just realised the order I am seeing the photos posted may be different to what others see. I should have labelled the pictures on the pictures. My bad.

Some say that spines are for E. ammak and E.injens are a different. Look up those here on A-ville search. I myself have seen the opposite as i recall. But,I could be wrong.
Also..here on Agaveille, the true name of E.ammak is given. Again,it's in the search and where to read more..I can't recall what it was.
