Scored a F. macdougalii today

Post by mcvansoest »

Well, I went on my first plant buying trip in quite a while. We made the trek to the Home Depot up near Gee.S given that it has one of the better garden centers when it comes to big box stores in the area and I came away with a Fouquieria macdougalii. It was the one plant clearly standing out among a large collection of alluaudia proceras... At $25 it felt like a bit of a score. I will try and post a picture later, though it is right now just a pretty thick tall stick with spines and leaves... so not overly photogenic.
It is what it is!

Good score! Little more than a twig in a 5-gal. when I grabbed mine last summer. Planted it out in my yard and it dropped all its leaves just as fast as it could in response to what may have been its first exposure to AZ sun. Not to worry, a few weeks later it was putting out new leaves, and stayed green all winter.

When I saw it, I remembered you mentioning something like that at the time.

Here is a quick pic, going in the ground tomorrow. Will try it in the full sun front in the hopes it becomes a happy camper.

Nice. I got this Purposii for $45 locally a week ago. Not bad considering what they go for online.

Epic score!

I’m keeping an eye out for one.
There’s a great guy in Tucson (the other Jeff Moore) that has them, amongst many other GREAT plants.
I might pay him another visit.

Nice find.
