Troubleshooting this Encephalartos longifolius

#1

Post by smapty »

I've had it in the ground for ~12 months and the leaves are starting to die from the base of the caudex. Is this normal or symptomatic of rot or another underlying issue. I'm new to growing cycads so any help is appreciated! Picture attached.

They ALL seem to do that when planted or moved. Just prune off dead leaves, wait until spring and give it a total leaf removal if the last stragglers struggle. I tell you- they seem to be spurred by total leaf removal over say, just removing the worst. The total removal acts like a trigger.
This is just my opinion, but also my experience with all the common cycad's,Cycas,Encephalartos,Dioons and the rest.
