Does anyone recognize this kind of damage? Certainly looks rodent to me - it has eaten through leaves (leaving the shreddy fibers) and pushed soil out through the hole it made. I could swear I saw something black and shiny moving around in there when I first looked closely, but by the time I got the tools and dug around there was nothing to be found. It looks like a burrow may continue to the left in the last photo but it's hard to tell. There doesn't seem to be any rot and the plant looks thirsty but healthy otherwise. Seems like something must be eating its roots?
Gopher? Maybe?

I've had squirrels dig a hole like that in my potted agaves wanting to bury acorns and pecans
