Hello from Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico
I recently retired after working as a wheat breeder at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). There I was in charge of the largest, publically available seed bank of wheat and its related species, in the world. The collection consists of over 125,000 accessions collected or donated by nearly 80 countries. I was also responsible for CIMMYT’s international wheat germplasm testing unit, which since the 1960’s has dispatched annually hundreds of experimental varieties, free-of-charge, to public and private sector researchers globally for experimental testing and release. Raised in Nebraska, I had long-term postings with CIMMYT in Ethiopia, Mexico, Turkey, Syria, Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe. Now living near Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico where my garden holds at least 25 Mexican-native Agave spp.

You found paradise. I've never been there but all I meet love it. Even my father raved about the climate and beauty of the area. Coconut palms and pine trees grow together...a botanical eden.

Close enough. My bad.
There was confusion by your previous post and some thought your account was a bot.
Do you have any photos to share of your agaves?

Thanks. I knew kerchovei had red coloration, but thought the leaves were narrower. I'm not familiar with Corvallis. Nice

The potted Adenium with royal palms and Italian cypress are more of that everything grows there.

In my working days I was travelling into London on a packed tube ( subway). I noticed a guy strap hanging who had 4 fingers. And 2 thumbs.

You have a good eye. It is the achachairú (Garcinia humilis).

Re: Hello from Lake Chapala, Jalisco, Mexico
how many other people in your area grow it? what about luc's garcinia? i have both but they are still small. i've never tasted the fruit.
garcinias grow so slow. i'm trying an experiment where i have a seedling of garcinia intermedia in a pot with several nitrogen fixers, such as guaje (leucaena leucocephala) and guamuchil (pithecellobium dulce)...
i also want to experiment with growing garcinias together with ice cream bean trees (inga species) since they are also nitrogen fixers. i got the idea when i learned about "inga alley cropping".
